Rachel Evernden
Lower Group

Lower Group (K)

Rachel is thrilled to have found a home at Walden on her journey as an educator. She steps into the role of Lower Group teacher with a history as a youth educator in elementary schools around the Bay Area. Personally, she is passionate about exploring the California wilderness, spending time with loved ones, and reading with her cat “Shark”.

As an educator, Rachel draws inspiration from her previous graduate studies at Mills college, inspiring colleagues she’s had the pleasure of working with, and the many brilliant students she’s been fortunate enough to build relationships with over the years. Rachel has experience in outdoor education, dance and yoga instruction, youth leadership programs, restorative practices, and classroom teaching in public schools at the primary level.

She is interested in social emotional wellness, an anti bias curriculum framework, increasing student agency, creative expression, and learning from each other’s strengths and contributions. Walden’s commitment to integrating arts and academics, engaging the whole child, seeing children as individuals, and teaching as a collective are aligned with Rachel’s vision of a powerful education community.
