Spanish Teacher

We are seeking a Spanish teacher to start in the Fall of 2019, someone who has experience with whole-child education encompassing academic, social, emotional, and physical development, and who loves teaching children.

Job Description

This position is for teaching Spanish to children from Kindergarten through 6th grade in mixed-age classes using a self-developed curriculum that teaches language in the context of culture. The Spanish teacher will integrate arts and play-based learning in their lessons, in a hands-on, meaningful way. Walden teachers practice flexibility, openness, and keen observation to fully engage students and support their joy of learning. We believe that this approach honors different learning styles and life experiences. We utilize a variety of assessment tools to inform our teaching, and do not administer formal tests or give grades.

Responsibility:

  • Plan and teach 2 classes a week for Kindergarten, First grade, 2nd-3rd grade, and 4-6th grade, 8 classes total
  • Meet with your mentor once a week for the first 2 months, then once a month or as needed after
  • Create an engaging and age-appropriate, multi-sensory Spanish program.
  • Communicate effectively about student learning and behavior with student’s classroom teachers
  • Provide short written progress reports for parent teacher conference
  • Meet once a month for staff meeting from 3-6p
  • Send occasional letters home regarding curriculum, special events, and classroom needs

Qualifications:

  • Fluency in Spanish
  • A bachelor’s degree
  • At least two years of teaching experience
  • Experience with and enjoy working in a collaborative environment
  • The ability to create a multi-sensory, playful, curriculum that incorporates art
  • A deep knowledge of child development and constructivism
  • The ability to create lessons that engage all students in a mixed-aged classroom
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability  and desire to build a classroom community
  • Ability to create lessons that incorporate anti-bias approaches

Preferences:

  • Teaching credential
  • Experience with Total Physical Response (TPR) or similar approach
  • Familiarity with Responsive Classroom

Compensation:

This is currently a part-time position. Competitive Hourly Rate.
